Can you replace a light fixture with a ceiling fan?
Yes, and it is one of the most common fan jobs. The catch is the box: a fixture box is not rated for a fan, so it has to be swapped for a fan-rated, braced box that can carry the weight and the constant vibration. Where there is attic access above, that is straightforward; where there is a finished floor above, it takes a bit more work, which we check first.
Why is my ceiling fan wobbling or making noise?
Nine times out of ten it is the box, not the fan. A fan mounted on a box that is not rated or not braced will wobble and hum as the vibration works the mounting loose. Bent blades and missing balancing weights cause it too, but if a properly balanced fan still wobbles, the mounting is the place to look. Left alone, a wobbling fan works its box looser over time.
Do you install remote or smart-controlled ceiling fans?
Yes. Remote-controlled fans need a receiver fitted in the canopy, and smart or wall-controlled fans sometimes need the right wiring at the switch. Older homes occasionally lack the wiring a wall control wants, and we sort that out as part of the job rather than leaving you with a fan the switch cannot fully control.
Can a ceiling fan go on a sloped or vaulted ceiling?
Yes, with a sloped-ceiling adapter and, on a high vaulted ceiling, a downrod sized so the fan hangs at a useful height.
